If you are a Gmail user you may miss being able to set it as your default email handler in Windows (or OSX).

If you've ever seen an error when you click on an email link or use a 'send by email' type function in some softwares, you need to set a default email application for your Operating System.

There are a number of ways to do this but the easiest I've seen so far comes from Google itself.  Install a small free app and follow the instructions and you'll be done in under 5 minutes :)

Hop on over to Google's help page, follow along and enjoy!

Later found this: http://superuser.com/questions/19326/how-to-wipe-free-disk-space-in-linux on wiping the unused/free space.  Have not tested these with Synology.

The JRE (or Java Runtime Environment) is a smaller version of the full Java and is what is installed on most computers to run Java 'Applets'.  Unless you develop in Java the JRE is all you need and probably all you have installed on your machine.

For a long time Java's installer had a nasty 'habit' of leaving older versions behind when you updated to the new version.  Sun claimed this was for 'backward compatibility' but in fact it leaves you exposed to the very security risks you tried to close by updating.  Quite stupid if you ask me.
