A lot of people are under the impression that Apple computers are safer than Windows computers. I think they feel that because there is no malware therefore there cannot be any malware. That's a lot like saying because I built my house where there is no tornado, therefore this summer there won't be any tornadoes. It's not the tightest argument I've heard..
This is a very interesting read: http://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2011/03/14/pwn2own-2011-results/
For those of you too lazy, let me give you a quick summary.
pwn2own is a sponsored annual event in the computer security community. HP is the sponsor. People (aka 'Hackers') come and compete win. If you hack a platform you win a prize. This year we tried IE, Safari, Chrome (browser), Firefox iPhone4 , BB Torch 9600 with BB OS6, Windows Phone 7 and an Nexus S running Android.
IE got hacked
Safari got hacked
the iPhone got hacked
the Torch got hacked.
Chrome never got challenged because the contestant was no-show.
Firefox, Android and Win Phone 7 survived.
Moral? Apple stuffs are not as almighty secure as some people want to believe. 30 years in the computer space and 1 thing I learned is believing there is no problem has never made it go away.
That's why we tell you not to drink Kool-Aid - No matter what they call it it's not real fruit!
